MANILA, PHILIPPINES - Vice President Sara Duterte honored all Filipinos fighting for their family and the country, calling them heroes.

"On this day, we remember the heroism of every Filipino who gave their life and strength for the welfare of the Philippines," Duterte said in a statement on National Heroes' Day.
Duterte also paid tribute to "every Filipino who chooses to be a hero in the modern times."
"Let us pay tribute to all in the Armed Forces who daily face danger to ensure the safety of our community. We also acknowledged all teachers, doctors, nurses, and all frontline workers serving in our community," she said.

She thanked Overseas Filipino Workers and “all the Filipinos who gave honor and praise to our country.”
"To every Filipino fighting for family, others, and the country, you are a hero," the vice president said.
